CAC Calculation Results
Your business spent $9,000.00 to acquire 50 customers. This results in a fully loaded, blended CAC of $180.00 per customer. Of that amount, $100.00 goes directly to advertising/campaign costs, and $80.00 covers team salaries, operations, and software.
The Formula
CAC Formulas:
Total Acquisition Spend = Marketing Ad Spend + Salaries/Software
Blended CAC = Total Acquisition Spend / New Customers Acquired
Marketing-only CAC = Marketing Ad Spend / New Customers AcquiredExample Calculation
If a website agency runs a campaign costing $3,000 in ads, pays freelance copywriters $1,500, spends $500 on subscription funnels, and secures 20 new clients:Total: $3,000 + $1,500 + $500 = $5,000 | Blended CAC: $5,000 / 20 = $250 per client | Paid CAC: $3,000 / 20 = $150

Frequently Asked Questions
Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) is the total financial expense required to win a single new customer. It typically includes all advertising spend, sales commissions, marketing/sales staff salaries, and software tools utilized during the sales cycle.
Paid CAC focuses strictly on the direct variable advertising costs (e.g., Google or Facebook Ads spend) divided by the number of customers gained from those ads. Blended CAC includes all marketing expenses—such as team payroll, agency fees, and software subscriptions—representing the fully burdened acquisition expense.
CAC must always be analyzed alongside LTV. A healthy business model has an LTV that is at least 3 times its CAC (LTV:CAC ratio of 3:1). If CAC is higher than LTV, you are losing money on every customer acquired. If CAC is too low, you might be underinvesting and missing out on rapid growth opportunities.
